Jigsaw Support Scheme Comes to Ashfield

Jigsaw is a registered charity which has recently funded a new Support Worker for the Ashfield area. The Support Worker can arrange to meet you close to your home and can offer advice/help on a wide range of issues, in a similar way to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.

Some of the advantages of using this service are that, wherever possible, you will be dealt with by one person at agreed times with no waiting room queues; after you have made initial contact, they will get in touch with you to make the experience as user friendly as possible.

Amongst the issues that they may be able to help with are:

Basic learning skills
Helping you stay in your home
Motability aids and adaptations
Physical health & exercise
Getting into training or employment
Drug/alchohol problems
Finding social & leisure interests
General wellbeing
Practical homecare
Claiming benefits, budgeting and managing finances

The service is for Aults over 18 years.

Living History Mine Exhibition DVD

The DVD created in 2007 to accompany the Living History Mine Exhibition continues to be popular with copies still being sold.

By using old photographs, cine-film and extracts from recorded interviews, it celebrates the history of Huthwaite over the past century.

Copies are available from the Centre Reception.

Summer Fair at All Saints Church & Centre

This year’s Summer Fair was a great success and managed to raise over £1500. Blessed with relatively fine weather and supported by volunteers and the Huthwaite Prize Band, those from the local community who attended had a great time.

With a wide variety of stalls, games and delicious food, there was something for all ages and tastes. Our thanks go out to all those who contributed including the local Scouting Groups, St. John’s Ambulance, Huthwaite Library, Sure Start and the many volunteers who devoted much appreciated time and effort.

The accompanying photographs help give a flavour of the event.

Take note - the date of the Christmas Fair is Saturday 21st November.

Wind in the Willows - the Musical

Over 60s Monthly Lunch Club

Mixing Food with Local History

Residents of the Sutton West Ward will soon be able to take advatage of a new monthly Lunch Club for the Over 60s. A start date is yet to be arranged, but the meals will be served on Tuesdays (probably the first Tuesday in each month).

Traditional, freshly cooked two course meals will be provided for £3.00 per head (including tea/coffee).

To launch the project will will be having a promotional meal coupled with a Local History Display at a subsidised cost of £1.00 per head for a two course meal. Booking details are to follow.

This will appeal particularly to those with an interest in Local History as we intend to offer people the chance to help put together a new exhibition of photographs of the local area.
