The DVD created in 2007 to accompany the Living History Mine Exhibition continues to be popular with copies still being sold.

By using old photographs, cine-film and extracts from recorded interviews, it celebrates the history of Huthwaite over the past century.

With a wide variety of stalls, games and delicious food, there was something for all ages and tastes. Our thanks go out to all those who contributed including the local Scouting Groups, St. John’s Ambulance, Huthwaite Library, Sure Start and the many volunteers who devoted much appreciated time and effort.

With funding from the National Lottery and help from the Ashfield   Partnership, the Sutton West Development Group have produced a “Ward  Plan” to put forward proposals for improving our area based on their own  research and information from residents.

The plan has been presented to representatives from the local council, police  and other interested parties for possible amendment and has now been adopted.  Printed copies of the full plan are available from the All Saints Centre in  Huthwaite. The plan can also be viewed in full on the Sutton West website http://suttonwest.mywebcommunity.org/

Sutton West Development Group

The Sutton West Development Group was formed in 2009 to promote Community Improvement. Their aim was to act as a link between residents and the local authorities, to highlight problems that affect the local community in order to work towards possible solutions.

As a group, they held regular meetings, helped deliver the “U Decide” event and organised “Ward Walks” to highlight problems and issues that affect you the residents of Sutton West Ward. The Community Plan for Sutton West Ward is the culmination of the group’s work and will be monitored  by the Huthwaite Community Action Group and the Alfreton Road Area Community Action Group.

Achievements in recent years

As well as arranging the U Decide event which helped fund many local voluntary groups, along with H.C.A.G. and A.R.A.C.A. the Sutton West Development Group has been involved in promoting the following  improvements to our ward.

Green Spaces – Brierley: a maturing forest park

Rookery Park – a landfill conversion project

Bluebell Park – changing rooms now in use

Welfare Park – under rejuvenation

One Way System introduced on Huthwaite Market Place

Pedestrian Crossing installed on Skegby Road/Sutton Road junction

Numerous footpaths improved (e.g. Herrods Hill steps, Calladine Lane footbridge over A38)

Bridleways opened on our old railway tracks (Blackwell Trail and Teversal Trail)

On the 1st Tuesday of every month we provide a lunch club for local people who are over 60. This offers an ideal opportunity to make friends whilst enjoying  traditional, freshly cooked meals.
